Large and structurally complex multi-use development on a steeply sloping coastal site. Our remit covered structural, civil and geotechnical engineering.
Eckersley O’Callaghan, together with our sub-consultants Geotechnical Consulting Group and Infrastructure Design Studio, have been appointed to provide Structural and Civil Engineering design services for the South Coast development with Grimshaw Architects. Our appointment covers geotechnical, civils, highways, drainage and structural design work.
The site is a 200m long section of the 30m high escarpment which separates the town from the shoreline. The development is an effort to connect the town to the sea and is part of a wider re-generation of the seafront area.
The scheme comprises three buildings built on the cliff face up to 12 storeys high together with a fourth building 100m long at beach level. They will contain a mix of residential, retail and cultural spaces, together with car parking beneath. The escarpment will be terraced to form spectacular new walking routes and public spaces running across it.
We are dealing with significant engineering challenges in bringing Grimshaw’s scheme to fruition on a site with great potential to create a spectacular new and sustainable development.
