New-build research facility for the University of Oxford’s Physics Department. The facade features bronze shading fins and large-format glazed punch windows.
BREEAM Excellent anticipated
Oxford University's new research building houses laboratories, lecture theatres and offices for the Theoretical and Experimental Physics Department. Eckersley O'Callaghan provided engineering services for the facade.
We have designed the facade to feature a grid of vertical and horizontal shading fins clad in patinated bronze; these are supported back to a triple-glazed unitised curtain wall system.
Large punched windows on each elevation reveal internal break-out spaces and allow a high level of natural daylight into the building, while opening windows in every room form part of a mixed-mode ventilation strategy.
These features have contributed to the building achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating.
