A team comprised of Eckersley O'Callaghan and HASSELL architects has been selected as finalists in a NASA competition to design a sustainable habitat that would allow four astronauts to live on Mars for a year.

The current Virtual Model Stage of the competition requires participants to use BIM software tools to create visual representations of a habitat that includes 1,000 square feet of living space and accommodates life support systems, mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing and features such as spacesuit and rover hatches.

Five winners will be chosen from the 10 finalists later in July.
