Computational design became my passion because it provides a common ground where multiple disciplines intersect and thrive. For me, it bridges architectural ambition with engineering logic, enabling a collaborative approach to realising design.

Why Eckersley O’Callaghan?
At EOC, I’m encouraged to think beyond conventional boundaries, forging stronger connections between architecture and engineering. I have the opportunity to introduce new ideas and workflows that not only enhance efficiency but also improve how we communicate complex concepts. With an architectural background, I understand the importance of conveying intricate structural ideas with clarity, without compromising engineering rigour.

What are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently working on a complex project featuring a striking podium and hotel, designed to resemble a stone quarry, transitioning from sky to sea. We’ve established collaborative parametric workflows to rationalise cladding, glazing, and planter elements, reducing variability and engineering complexities while maintaining the design intent.

Biggest challenge/opportunity for engineers?
One of the biggest challenges today is harnessing technology to drive sustainability, improve efficiency, and inform better decision-making. The building industry must embrace digital tools to reduce waste, optimise materials, and create smarter, more resilient structures.

What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about design at all scales and turning ideas into reality. I thrive on tackling complex challenges and finding creative solutions. I’m also fascinated by AI’s evolving role in engineering and excited about how it can empower us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the built environment.

Meet Jun Wen Loo, Computational Design Engineer.
