{"id":29443,"date":"2026-03-10T09:24:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T09:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/?p=29443"},"modified":"2026-03-10T15:54:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T15:54:25","slug":"eu-tumo-convergence-center-for-engineering-and-applied-science-project-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/fr\/eu-tumo-convergence-center-for-engineering-and-applied-science-project-update\/","title":{"rendered":"EU TUMO Convergence Center for Engineering and Applied Science, Project Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Construction on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.convergence.center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>EU TUMO Convergence Center for Engineering and Applied Science<\/strong><\/a> in Yerevan has officially started, marking a significant milestone on a project that will provide a bold new home for technology, applied science and an engineering education hub, connecting higher education with industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">On February 24th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/about-us\/our-team\/artiom-cybulko\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Artiom Cybulko<\/strong><\/a>, Associate and Project Manager on the project, joined representatives from the Armenian government, EU state, technology industry and the wider project team, attended a ceremony in Armenia to celebrate this milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1805\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/34-scaled.png\" alt=\"TUMO Convergence Center\" class=\"wp-image-29445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/34-scaled.png 2560w, https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/34-300x212.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><br>Situated above the Hrazdan River Gorge, the 120m long, five storey building features two cantilevers up to 16.5m long providing inspiring views of the valley below. Its flexible, multifunctional design will allow the building to adapt to future educational and research needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/011-EUCC-MVRDV-CC-ZZ-ZZ-VS-A-103.png\" alt=\"TUMO Convergence Center\" class=\"wp-image-29447\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><br>Eckersley O\u2019Callaghan is providing structural engineering services for the project, having developed the concept design and now supporting delivery alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/mvrdv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>MVRDV<\/strong><\/a> and the client, TUMO. The reinforced concrete (RC) superstructure is formed as a rectangular tube, with the cantilevered ends supported by large RC Vierendeel frames that create column free, high ceilinged event spaces. The RC frame continues down to form a partially excavated basement box supported on a deep RC raft foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1805\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/011-EUCC-MVRDV-CC-ZZ-ZZ-VS-A-105-scaled.png\" alt=\"TUMO Convergence Center\" class=\"wp-image-29449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/011-EUCC-MVRDV-CC-ZZ-ZZ-VS-A-105-scaled.png 2560w, https:\/\/www.eocengineers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/011-EUCC-MVRDV-CC-ZZ-ZZ-VS-A-105-300x212.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><br>Given Armenia\u2019s high seismicity, the design of the 16.5m long span cantilevers and Vierendeel frames required particular attention to ensure robust performance under extreme events. Lateral stability is achieved through the interaction of the main RC frame with strategically placed shear core walls, which tie into the ground floor and roof slab diaphragms. Our engineering team worked hard to balance the bold architectural vision with the local availability and cost of structural materials, ensuring the scheme is economically viable while achieving the high-performance criteria.
