Designed in response to the impact of the 2021 Typhoon Odette, two new farm shelters helped address the need for community recovery and resilience in Siargao, Philippines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Providing multifunctional spaces for the local farming community, who had to relocate from fishing villages following the typhoon, the farm huts are used as tool storage, rest areas, hammocks, water stations and plant nurseries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of Eckersley O\u2019Callaghan\u2019s commitment to charitable work, our structures team<\/strong><\/a> shared their expertise on best practice cyclone resistant construction concepts for this pro bono initiative. Built by Caukin Studio<\/strong><\/a> and volunteers, some of which were from the local community, the farm huts were constructed using locally sourced materials. This initiative helps the community become more self-sufficient by teaching them key construction techniques for designing against natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
