Eckersley O’Callaghan has provided facade and structural glass engineering for Apple's first flagship store in Singapore, considered one of the greenest cities in the world. All of the store’s energy comes from renewable resources.

The store is shaded by 8 mature trees and a further 12 inside meeting the desire to bring the outside in. In order to meet Singapore’s stringent building control regulations, the double storey facade comprises of Insulated Glazed Unit (IGU) panels to meet the environmental performance required. The glazing measures 14m in height, and totals 35m in length. 60cm deep glass fins laterally restrain the panels.

We engineered the glass balustrade on the mezzanine from a single panel of glass which is the widest in South East Asia at 7.2m.

Guests enter the store through three double-leaf glass swing doors, each shaded by a glass canopy and flanked by side lights. We were able to design connections and fins with minimal visual impact on the doors.
