Sevenoaks School

The project is the latest in a masterplan for the long term development of Sevenoaks School, a major independent co-educational school. The school has an extensive site within a Conservation Area, adjacent to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Knole Park.

The new building will refresh and expand the School’s science department, providing technology workshop spaces, a sixth form centre, café and large multipurpose exam space and administrative offices.

The reinforced concrete construction is engineered with large spans for a flexible layout. The concrete soffits will be exposed and columns visually express the structural frame, facilitate natural ventilation and make use of the buildings thermal mass.

The building has a steel framed roof with north light roof trusses. Exposed ribbed, precast concrete panels complete the roof and span over a central atrium. The structure is fully resolved and coordinated with the servicing through the development of the BIM model during the design.

The building is embedded into a sloping site and an additional reinforced concrete basement level will contain storage and plant spaces.

The SUDS drainage design includes areas of permeable landscaping and soakaways.

The project has achieved BREEAM Excellent.
