Opera Terrace, Covent Garden
Capco’s recently completed Opera Terrace project, above London’s Covent Garden Market, sensitively integrates modern design with the historic fabric to create a space for fine dining. In collaboration with
Eric Parry Architects
, we have combined our expertise in structures and facades to engineer an
undulating envelope that responds to preserve key sightlines. Supporting both flat and curved panels of roof and glazing, the structure comprises of a series of exposed stainless steel trusses which adapt along the 50m length of the terrace – shaping a form that respects the public space below.

We are delighted that James O’Callaghan is the 47th recipient of the international glass industry’s Phoenix Award. James is the first structural engineer to be recognised and the first Brit since Sir Alistair Pilkington, the inventor of the float glass process, was awarded the prize in 1981.

In collaboration with Foster + Partners, we engineered the recently opened Apple Dubai Mall’s 11m high glazed facade and folding ‘Solar Wings’ shutters which close during the day and open at night. High performance glass is part of the energy strategy that meets the challenges of the extreme climate.

Preserving Heritage at Oxford University
Preserving Heritage at Oxford University
The H B Allen Centre at Keble College, Oxford, is taking shape with excavation well underway. The Grade II listed Acland House will be preserved with the new 4-storey postgraduate centre wrapping both sides and underneath. To enable the excavation, the existing ground floor structure was broken out and a
series of 14m deep piles installed from the ground floor level to act as temporary support columns for the new podium. When the excavation is complete, new basement structure will be constructed to support Acland House, allowing demolition of the temporary piles.

The latest addition to the Salt Lake City skyline features an expansive
35 foot high lobby entrance with unique challenges. The column-free building has all 24 floors hung from a cantilevering structure at roof level.
We engineered the custom all-glass lobby facade, including a glass kinetic hinge system, to accommodate the significant movements at the interface with the hanging floors above.

Building Eduction in Haiti
Building Education
in Ganthier, Haiti
We are contributing our engineering skills to support the building of La Référence secondary school in Ganthier, Haiti, with charity KONEKTE. Devastated by an earthquake in January 2010, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere where 70% of children do not attend secondary school.
