Innovate & Build

Join us as we celebrate our latest achievements, from the world’s largest reading space that is Beijing Sub-Central Library to the transformative Piraeus Tower in Athens. Explore our civil  engineering advancements, meet our new team member Christian Maheshe, and dive into sustainable innovation with BayBuilder and GlazingRecovery.org.

Beijing Sub-Central Library
Beijing Sub-Central Library
The Beijing Sub-Central Library, designed by Snøhetta has reached completion, featuring the world’s largest library reading space and a 16m tall, self-supporting glass facade, the first of its kind in China. The saw-tooth geometry creates stiffness to dispense with traditional mullions or fins whilst reducing the glass thickness, so enhancing both transparency and the architectural form.
Given its unique geometry, a key aspect was understanding the relationship between building sway movement and the facade. A total of 280 panels of glass make up the envelope. The library’s contemporary design sets a new standard for sustainable library architecture and celebrates Beijing’s cultural richness.

Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering
Our civil engineering team leverages the depth and breadth of our holistic engineering expertise to seamlessly deliver even the most involved projects. Our services include comprehensive stormwater and foul drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, and the design of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) such as permeable paving, green roofs, and detention basins. As infrastructure demands become more complex, our focus is on developing innovative, cost-effective solutions that benefit communities and the environment.
From early planning stages to construction, we provide end-to-end support for a wide range of projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering infrastructure that stands the test of time. Olympia Canopy
Olympia Canopy, London
The Kensington Olympia glass canopy, designed with Heatherwick Studio, is now complete! Eckersley O’Callaghan are facade engineers on the whole redevelopment project, which included the steel and glass canopy that shelters the public realm space.
The architectural goal was to establish a visual connection with the existing Victorian arches. The canopy features five arches spanning 25m, connected by a lightweight ladder frame structure that forms a pleated surface to support the glass.

Pireus Tower
Pireus Tower, Athens
The Piraeus Tower, has been a prominent structure in the port Athens for 50 years, familiar to anyone taking a ferry to the Greek Islands as it stood unfinished and unoccupied throughout that time. It has now undergone a remarkable transformation with its redesign by PILA who have finally completed it! We played a vital role in this project by engineering the tower's new facades, which span 34,000m2 and recycled much of the original glass and aluminium.
We tackled the complex challenges of integrating advanced structural systems with sustainability goals, using sophisticated analysis techniques to optimise both aesthetics and performance. The result is a revitalised tower that not only enhances the skyline but has led the way in bringing modern, sustainable facade design practices to the commercial built environment in Greece.
