Reform
In this newsletter we explore the transformative power of engineering in driving sustainable change. We recognise the influence of our daily decisions as engineers on the carbon intensity of projects and with a strong foundation in efficient engineering and design, we consider sustainability as a fundamental aspect of construction. Join us as we embark on this transformative journey of reform, utilising the power of engineering to combat the climate crisis.
From Urgency to Action
From Urgency to Action
Sustainability is an essential part of Eckersley O’Callaghan's approach to structural and facade engineering, from designing in low-carbon materials to developing buildings that minimise energy demand, supported
by our digital design tools and R&D. Get to know our sustainability services and exemplar projects by downloading our sustainability brochure below.

The Black and White Building
The Black and White Building, London
Construction of the Black and White Building has been successfully completed and it is now open to the public. In addition to this exciting milestone, we are pleased to share that it was shortlisted for the Construction News Awards Low Carbon Project of the Year. Currently the tallest commercial timber framed building in central London, it operates
entirely on 100 percent renewable energy sources, pointing the way to a sustainable architecture. Compared to a similar conventional six-storey structure, the Black and White Building has successfully reduced over a third of its embodied carbon emissions.

Enhancing the Potential of Adaptive Reuse
Enhancing the Potential of Adaptive Reuse
Welcome to our series on adaptive reuse, a transformative process that repurposes existing buildings or structures to achieve a low carbon future. Eckersley O'Callaghan firmly believes in the power of adaptive reuse to create a greener world. By preserving architectural and historical significance, maximising existing resources, and championing sustainability, we strive to strike a
balance between functionality and preservation. Join us as we explore the challenges and opportunities of working with existing buildings, reimagining spaces, and harmonising modern requirements with historical value.

Apple BKC
Apple BKC, Mumbai
Apple BKC, in Mumbai, India has completed and marks Apple's inaugural location in the country. A dramatic staircase is supported by composite structural action of the steel stringer and 14m long, shaped, continuous glass balustrades.
A cantilever canopy supports an intricate timber soffit, whose diagrid structure runs across the interior of the store, and an 8m tall, carefully detailed glass facade with stainless steel mullions wraps the retail spaces.

The Henderson
The Henderson, Hong Kong
The collaborative effort between our London and Hong Kong offices, along with Zaha Hadid Architects, has resulted in the creation of an extraordinary steel and glass event space perched atop the magnificent new 36-storey Super Grade A office tower, which is set to become a Hong Kong landmark. This column-free structure will offer breathtaking panoramic views of the city when
completed later this year. The project demanded complex analysis to assess movements and interactions with the tower structure under very high wind loads, for both the event space and a series of pedestrian access bridges at podium level. The Henderson is poised to become a prominent Hong Kong landmark.
