Six storey mixed-use building in the heart of Victoria with high sustainability targets.
Townsend House is a six storey building in the heart of Victoria that comprises four floors of workspace with two duplex apartments on the upper floors with retail on the ground floor. The design incorporates sandstone faced precast concrete pilasters with scalloped geometry detailing, rising vertically across the facade. A series of projecting contemporary bay windows and spandrels in dark bronze finished aluminium are framed within the pilasters. The facade also features complex geometry with art deco inspired aluminium cladding panels to the upper residential floors which include feature windows and doors to terraces.`
Eckersley O’Callaghan worked closely with the facade contractor, reviewing the tendering documentation advising on risks and opportunities with a key focus on the proposed design approaches. We advised on technical best practice codes to support in the development of appropriate systems.
Additionally, we assisted in the design of the projecting bay windows to meet the slender mullion profiles. This resulted in a bespoke curtain wall and glazing design with complex structural design elements. The design input also included structural approaches to achieve the structurally supporting slender base and head projecting elements.
The project has high sustainability aspirations targeting BREEAM, NABERS and WELL building certification.
