A private house completed for, and in collaboration with, the architect Julian Kinal.
The house is embedded into the hillside in the village of Sylling, and constructed in two sections within a reinforced concrete retaining wall.
The sections are separated by a central external staircase – also concrete. The design looked at a number of prefabricated house build options, including Cross Laminated Timber, but settled on a traditional timber construction.
A steel frame was used to create the open plan kitchen and living room areas, a fully glazed front facade and large rooflights.
The house is designed to withstand the large wind and snow loadings of coastal Norway.
