Brian Eckersley
BEng BA (Arch) CEng MIStructE
Founding Director

Brian Eckersley is a leading Structural Engineer with over 30 years of experience and a passion for good design, where bringing architecture and engineering together in an elegant, efficient and beautiful way is paramount. His innovative approach to engineering saw him being involved in the world’s first ever, highly innovative loadbearing glass structures with Rick Mather Architect and on the seminal Tokyo international forum canopy.

Since then he co-founded the award-winning structural engineering practice Eckersley O’Callaghan in 2004 and has directed the company for numerous awards and competition-winning schemes. He has extensive experience of, and has brought value to, many types of structures and scales from historic refurbishment and rehabilitation through to large new-build schemes and iconic sculptures.

He has a keen interest in how pragmatic and economical use of engineering and construction methods can be used to make buildings. He is an advocate of uncovering all potential value on a project and bringing rationale to complex schemes through an understanding of specific needs and priorities from the outset. This approach has effectively delivered many high-profile mixed-use developments in challenging sites.

Brian teaches at many UK schools of architecture including the Architectural Association, the Bartlett, The Royal College of Art and the University of Cambridge.
