Apple unveiled its first two retail stores in the United Arab of Emirates on the same day; the simultaneous launch of Apple Mall of Emirates and Apple Yas Mall was a first for the tech giant.
Eckersley O’Callaghan was appointed as the specialist structural glass engineer for Apple Yas Mall.
The store, located in the Yas Mall development of Abu Dhabi, features a 10 metre glass storefront. We engineered an internal entrance with maximum transparency by utilising single pieces of glass spanning 10 metres from the floor to ceiling. Typical support fins or mullions were avoided.
We designed a system to accommodate the main superstructure movements. Careful detailing avoids the transfer of significant loads into the top and bottom captures.
