Apple Williamsburg, their first store in Brooklyn, with an industrial aesthetic that distinguishes it from other New York Apple stores.

2017 Brick in Architecture Award

Designing Apple Williamsburg, the architect’s intent was to reference Williamsburg’s industrial past, using materials and systems that would complement the brick facade and arches of the existing building.

Eckersley O’Callaghan engineered the store’s new steel and glass facade, which is set into the arched openings of a new masonry enclosure. The project’s main challenge was in developing the facade’s steel-framed fenestration system while ensuring it remained cost-effective and met stringent Energy Conservation Codes.

We achieved the minimal aesthetic required for Apple stores with a custom prefabricated system, de-bridged and thermally improved, featuring welded connections.
