A highly detailed, technically complex build for a new private residence in Lavendar Bay, overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Situated in a prime location overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge, this high-end private residence on Bay View Street comprises a four-storey frame with a spiral staircase feature.

With challenging neighbouring conditions such as the basement excavation being adjacent to the neighbouring structures on a sloping site, and the street-level ground floor slab functioning as a construction deck due to limited site access, Eckersley O’Callaghan provided structural engineering services for a phased bulk extension which utilised propped perimeter contiguous pile walls to retain soil and enable safe construction of the structure.

With the structural engineering approach prioritising optimised floor depths and span-to-depth ratios were employed for the four-story reinforced concrete frame to reduce column sizes and meet stringent earthquake performance requirements. In addition, the spiral staircase acting as a centerpiece throughout the structure was engineered from place steel and underwent concrete structural analysis on behalf of the contractor.

To achieve architectural intent, high precision sheeted glass allowed for uninterrupted views. This custom facade engineering also accommodates thermal movement and ensures long-term durability.
