Honouring nearly 100 years of cricket, NDCC will see a refurbished pavilion to usher in a new era.
Fostering talent and promoting the spirit of cricket within the local community, the Northern District Cricket Club (NDCC) will have a refurbished pavilion at Mark Taylor Oval.
With the original pavilion opening in 1929, the refurbishment marks a proud chapter for NDCC. The new pavilion represents a sensitive yet forward-looking intervention, preserving the heritage of Mark Taylor Oval while delivering modern, functional spaces for players and the community.
Eckersley O’Callaghan is providing structural engineering services from feasibility to construction, with a new reinforced concrete frame structure designed to create back-of-house areas, including changing rooms, storage, and sports facilities. The frame provides robust durability and fire resilience, whilst accommodating service integration in confined spaces.
In addition, to achieve the expansive internal spans required for the pavilion hall on the first floor whilst maintaining uninterrupted views of the playing field, a steel portal frame structure was implemented. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the external cladding, screen elements, and folding roof form, the distinctive edge profiles define the pavilion’s modern aesthetic.
Attention was given to coordinating structural members with architectural detailing, including managing steel-to-steel connections, roof folding forms, and interface points with the concrete substructure.
