Eckersley O’Callaghan engineering the facades for this multi-phase residential-led development incorporating around 16 new buildings and the substantial refurbishment of two factory buildings.
The 5.4-hectare site encompasses the former Peek Frean Biscuit Factory and the former site of Lewisham and Southwark College. The project will see the completion of 1,300 rental homes, over 10,000 square metres of new office space, 10,000 square metres of retail, culture, leisure and community facilities and a new secondary school. The character of the buildings draws heavily from the heritage of the historical uses and local area.
Phase One involves the refurbishment of the Biscuit Factory, and the design of two towers up to 100 metres in height. Materials involved include textured GRC, brickwork, precast concrete and glazed windows and doors.
We have worked closely with the architect and cost consultant to develop facade systems and details that meet the design intent, while keeping within a tight cost plan, and satisfying onerous thermal and acoustic requirements. This has been achieved by investigating material options and carrying out detailed analysis of thermal performance.
