Dynamic development that combines new and refurbished structures and facades to create a mix of office, retail and residential spaces.
Eckersley O’Callaghan is providing structural and facade engineering services on this mixed-use development that occupies a gap site between Gray’s Inn Road and Mount Pleasant in Clerkenwell. The project consists of several linked structures and includes a new public thoroughfare.
On Gray’s Inn Road, a new six-storey mansion block will be constructed above retained shopfronts. Formed from a concrete frame, the structure includes a single-storey basement, which sits within river terrace deposits above the London Clay Formation, and will use a secant piled wall.
The facade facing the street features precast concrete with infill glazing, with curtain walling to the remaining elevations and an ETFE roof on the atrium.
The industrial 20th century Panther House structures on Mount Pleasant will be refurbished, with the addition of new storeys providing around 5000 m2 of high-quality office space. Intensive investigations carried out on the existing structure have determined its form and condition to justify the increase in floors. The existing basement will be deepened and a new steel-framed structure inserted behind retained perimeter walls.
