Design of a retail facade with customised light boxes for the world’s largest H&M flagship store

Eckersley O’Callaghan provided facade engineering services for H&M’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York’s Midtown.

The main entrance facade is four storeys tall and uses glass fins to maximise the building’s transparency. We worked closely with the lighting engineer to develop a light box system in a rain screen wall for the opaque cladding elements.

Particular attention is paid to the glass specification and surface treatments to attain a unified appearance between the opaque and transparent glazed systems.
