Brooklyn’s first new office and production building in over 40 years, 25 Kent features an envelope of masonry facing the street and glass curtain walls that take advantage of views onto the waterfront.
Set on the waterfront of the fashionable Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn, 25 Kent is an office development that incorporates numerous features that significantly improve on the typical work environment. A generous public plaza and steel-framed ground floor retail spaces anchor the upper seven office storeys.
The building is divided into north and south ‘bars’, with a link bridge that utilises an underslung, full-height, glazed curtain wall to maximise views across the waterfront. Setbacks along the sides of the office portion of the building provide external terraces. Here the masonry facades, with punched windows and sliding glass doors, are sympathetic to the surrounding neighbourhood’s brick architecture.
Like the bridging structure, the end walls of the office bars make the most of the views across the water to the Manhattan skyline with a full-height high-performance unitised curtain wall.
Eckersley O’Callaghan provided facade consulting services for all exterior enclosure systems, resulting in an architecturally impressive building achieved within tight budget constraints.
