PUMA, Oxford Street

PUMA’s new flagship store on Oxford Street is in progress! We’re engineering both the structure and facade, working alongside SEELE, Johnson Pinney Architects and Mett Build.

We have developed the design of the new retail facade and internal fitout works which include significant structural alterations to the 10m glazed retail frontage, as well as a first-floor mezzanine extension, new feature staircase, and the introduction of a new lift shaft.

The photos showcase an important project milestone, the completion of the primary steelwork which frames the new storefront. Rather than replacing the existing columns, which at first glance would have been the obvious solution, the design team and PUMA opted to trim and strengthen existing columns to create something more elegant. Benefits included a faster programme, a reduction in temporary works, reduced cost, less waste and reduced embodied carbon. The result is a brand new frontage, offering uninterrupted views into the store.

With careful consideration to construction sequencing and stability, the existing stocky columns have been flame cut to become much slimmer, then strengthened using new side plates welded on-site. The finished framing will remain architecturally exposed with a new paint finish, ready for the glazing installation.

We are looking forward to seeing the end result!
