Suspended structures at the historic South London Gallery

As part of our on-going collaboration with the South London Gallery, we supported the installation of a new exhibition by Polish artist Monika Sosnowska. Using our expertise in heritage structures, our structural engineering team analysed the historic beams and designed reversable bracketry sympathetic to the historic fabric to allow for hanging and supporting a series of sculptures.
Displaying until the 22nd November, the show titled ‘Weight of Matter’ reflects on the implosion of the communist regime in Poland through a series of suspended steel and concrete artworks across the Main Gallery and Fire Station spaces.
We transformed the previously derelict Grade II* listed Victorian fire station into a new gallery and exhibition space back in 2018, of which our structural engineering team designed the repairs and strengthening needed to retain the building’s historic fabric. In addition, we designed of a new four-storey steel staircase that traverses the entrance foyer.
