How do you create a spectacular transparent swimming pool 10 floors in the air?

It only takes one look at Sky Pool to recognise that it is a remarkable feat of design and engineering. Ten floors up, spanning a gap of 15m between two new residential buildings, Sky Pool is the world’s first fully transparent swimming pool. And when you are designing a world first, you can expect to encounter some significant challenges.

Hosted by Lee Mallett, our design team which includes Brian Eckersley of Eckersley O’Callaghan, and Hal Currey of HAL Architects, discussed the process of realising such an ambitious architectural intent. They highlighted the difficulties of engineering a solution that could carry 100 tonnes of water between two buildings subject to natural movements – all while maintaining a dizzyingly clear view through to the park 35m below!
